READ THEIR COMPANY COMPLAINTS AT www.complaintsboard.com JPMorgan Chase (JPM) said Friday that it is expanding its program to modify mortgages to try to avoid foreclosures on up to $70 billion in loans. The loan-modification program will also be offered to customers with loans held by Washington Mutual and EMC. JPMorgan acquired Washington Mutual last month after the bank became the largest in the nation’s history to fail. EMC was a mortgage unit of Bear Stearns, which JPMorgan acquired in February. The modification program applies only to owner-occupied properties with mortgages owned by JPMorgan, Washington Mutual or EMC, with investor approval. The program will include opening 24 regional counseling centers, hiring of 300 more loan counselors, new financing alternatives, reaching out to borrowers with pre-qualified modification terms and a new process to independently review each loan before it is moved into foreclosure. Chase says the changes are expected to be implemented within 90 days, and until the changes are made, it will not put any loans into foreclosure.
Bank of America Settles With Fannie, Freddie, To Take Provision, Charge in Q4
Bank of America (BAC) announced agreements with the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) and the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) to resolve repurchase claims involving certain residential mortgage loans sold to them by entities related to Countrywide Financial Corporation. Bank of America also announced today that in the fourth quarter of 2010 it expects to take a provision of approximately $3 billion related to repurchase obligations for residential mortgage loans sold by Bank of America affiliates directly to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. This provision results from both the GSE agreements referred to above and adjustments to the representations and warranties liability for other loans sold directly to the GSEs and not covered by these agreements. The loans not covered by the agreements include both legacy Countrywide loans and loans originated on other legacy platforms, BofA says in a statement. Through this provision, Bank of America believes that it has addressed its remaining exposure to repurchase obligations for residential mortgage loans sold directly to the GSEs. The calculation of the provision incorporates historical experience with the GSEs and certain assumptions regarding economic conditions, home prices and other matters, and future provisions for representations and warranties may be affected if the actual results are different.
